Juvenile Detention Centers | NC DPS
Nine NCDPS juvenile detention centers (two of which are co-located with YDCs) are operational across North Carolina. Additionally, the Juvenile Justice section monitors and supports three county-operated juvenile detention centers. Juvenile detention centers are secure, temporary facilities where a juvenile will stay while waiting to go to court or until a placement can be arranged.

It started with an incident Sunday evening. According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, a group of youth inmates in one of the units refused to go back to their rooms as instructed by staff members.
